According to B2B Magazine – 4-22-13

Washington, D.C.—Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) plans to hold a hearing on Wednesday, April 24, on the advertising industry’s use of behavioral tracking data and the state of do not track standards.

Rockefeller, who has said that the advertising industry’s current efforts at policing its own online advertising practices are insufficient, is in favor of federal laws controlling online data collection for the purposes of targeted advertising.

In February, Rockefeller reintroduced his bill that failed to gain passage last year, called the Do Not Track Online Act. If passed, the bill would compel companies to gain an Internet user’s permission before collecting online behavioral information for advertising purposes. Violators could be fined up to $15 million.
