The Importance of Good Customer Service

March 29, 2011 • Dundee Data • Dundee Data News

Whether you are a business owner or an employee, it’s important to provide good customer service, it’s what keeps your clients coming back.  So, what are you doing to provide good customer service and retain your customers?  Think about this, the last person to buy from you is the one who is most likely to buy again.  A repeat customer typically doesn’t happen by accident, it is usually a direct result of the relationship you have with them…and that comes from the type of customer care you provide.  Here are some suggestions to help you provide good customer care.

  1. Send a Thank You email when they first come on board and after each purchase.  This shows that you care about them and take the time to show it.
  2.  Consistently send them messages with your contact information, as well as a new piece of information about the products you are selling.
  3. Show that you are not after their money, but the long term relationship.  You can do this by discounting their purchases from time to time or upgrading them to better deals, at no additional cost.
  4. Remember a few personal facts about your customers.  For example, birthday’s, children’s names, hobbies etc.  Showing interest in your clients outside of “business” makes things more personable and shows that you are invested in them, not just the business side of things.

According to an article by Small Business Success, research shows that service driven companies are able to charge up to 9% more for the goods and services they offer and grow twice as fast as the average.  People are willing to pay a little more for less hassle and good customer care.  Keeping existing customers is much easier than finding new ones, and this is simply done by understanding your clients, offering a good product/service and most importantly, providing good customer care.  It’s that simple.  It goes back to the old saying “treat others how you want to be treated”.  Everyone wants good customer service and to be treated with respect and made to feel like they are important.  Good customer care should be the easiest part of your job.
