Spring Cleaning Your Targeted Mailing Lists

Ohh Spring has sprung, just ask my sneezing son!  But while we were sneezing over here, while things were blooming and we were a cleaning, I came across this oldie but goodie message I had sent out a few years ago, and thought I would share it with you all again…

 

Spring is in the air!

The other day I was looking at my to-do list and saw that it’s time for spring-cleaning and spring planting, which triggered the thought of how important it is for my clients to keep a clean contact database, while also growing their targeted mailing lists and data base.

 

  • The first thing to note is that bigger is not always better. Having a lot of junk around is never a good thing. Though some industries with larger databases do a great job of keeping a clean database, it does not mean they get better return on their marketing investment.  In fact, many times the highest R.O.I.’s are yielded by the Retail Trade industry, which generally maintains clean, though smaller database sizes on average.
  • Less than perfect database cleaning doesn’t necessarily translate to less effective marketing activities.  It’s true that creating compelling content drives action when target marketing, but if you are sending it to unreachable contacts, what good is the compelling content??
  • How do people get a good R.O.I with having a lot of junk lying around?  They use database cleansing which Dundee Data does for many of our clients. They use segmentation to ensure they’re sending to the right contacts, and also they use profiling to add more to their targeted mailing lists and targeted email lists. These are all things I enjoy doing for my clients!!
  • Manage your contact strategy in a more focused way by building appropriate segments and automating awesome campaigns with a fantastic ROI.
